ABSTRACT

Objective@#To understand the prevalence and influencing factors of scoliosis among primary and middle school students in Shanghai, so as to provide reference for the prevention and control strategies of scoliosis in children and adolescents.@*Methods@#From September to December 2021, a total of 4 531 students from grade four of primary school to grade three of junior high school from 16 primary and middle schools in 4 districts of Shanghai were selected by multi stage stratified cluster sampling to carry out scoliosis screening and questionnaire survey. Independent sample t-test, Chi-squared test, Fisher s exact probability method and nonparametric Mann Whitney U-test were used for statistical analysis, and multivariate Logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of scoliosis.@*Results@#The on the spot detection rate of scoliosis abnormality was 7.4% and the prevalence was 2.2%, mainly for thoracolumbar scoliosis (60.4%) and the scoliosis angle of 10° -<20°(88.1%). The results showed that the detection rate of scoliosis in boys was 1.6% and in girls was 3.3%, with a statistically significant difference ( χ 2=11.84, P < 0.01). There were significant differences in weight and BMI between scoliosis students and students with negative initial screening( t = -3.77, -5.30, P <0.01). And there was a statistically significant difference in the detection rate of scoliosis with different frequency of classroom seating arrangements ( Z =2.02, P <0.05). The results of multivariate Logistic regression showed that the risk of scoliosis in girls was higher than that in boys ( OR =1.87, 95% CI =1.21-2.88). BMI ( OR =0.89, 95% CI =0.83-0.95) and frequency of classroom seating arrangements ( OR =0.49, 95% CI =0.25-0.93) were correlated with lower rate of scoliosis. After stratification by sex, the frequency of classroom seating arrangements ( OR =0.26, 95% CI =0.10-0.67) in boys and the educational stage ( OR =2.35, 95% CI =1.26-4.41) in girls ( P <0.05) was correlated with higher rate of scoliosis, while BMI ( OR =0.86, 95% CI =0.79-0.94) in girls were correlated with lower rate of scoliosis.@*Conclusion@#Regular screening of scoliosis is an effective method for early detection of scoliosis. Girls in junior high school and low BMI should be paid close attention to. According to the occurrence and influencing factors of scoliosis, comprehensive prevention and control based on family, school, society, and other aspects can be carried out.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To explore dynamics of parenting styles of adolescents from 1999 to 2019 from the perspective of intergenerational conflict, to provide support for family education and adolescent healthy development.@*Methods@#Using a multistage stratified cluster random sampling method, the unified questionnaire was administered to 2 590 students in the same sampling junior and senior high schools in 1999, 2009, and 2019 using the Egna Minnen av Barndoms Uppfostran own memories of parental rearing practices in childhood(EMBU).@*Results@#Overall there were differences in the nine factors of parenting styles across generations ( F = 12.07-72.52, P <0.01), with decreasing ratings of warmth and understanding of father and mother (F1, M1), over interference of father (F3) over generations(F1:46.72±9.41, 45.87±11.33, 43.61±11.27; M1:51.56±9.38, 51.03±11.59, 46.23± 12.27 ; F3:19.03±4.00, 18.29±4.32, 17.95±4.51), and all other parenting styles rated higher in 2019 than in 2009 and 1999(except for the over protection and over interference of mother, and punishment, firm control of mother). Parenting styles across generations (except for the rejection and denial of father among girls) showed gender difference. The overall gender trend coincided with the total population trend. Parenting styles across generations varied significantly among middle and high school students( F =3.92-47.27, P <0.05 ), changes in F1 and F3 factors coincided with the overall decreasing trend. Factor analysis showed that parenting styles could be classified into two dimensions, with varied factor loading across generation.@*Conclusion@#Intergenerational decreases in parental emotional warmth and paternal interfering are observed in a sex and grade specific manner. Based on the diversity of needs and population differentiation, optimal intervention for comprehensive health development of adolescents are in great need to keep pace with the times and promoting the high quality development of adolescents.

ABSTRACT

Abstract@#At the beginning of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, health work in Hebei Province was faced with a difficult situation in which people suffered from numerous diseases and shortage of critical drugs. With strong support from Hebei provincial government, health education and propaganda were carried out in all levels of elementary and secondary schools, gradually a set of school-based comprehensive disease prevention and health promotion system was created which set stages for healthy development among children and adolescents, as well as raised popular awareness of disease prevention and ultimately established a professionaldevelopment plan for school health in Hebei Province. This work generated reference values to health education and health-related work across elementary and secondary schools across China.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

To investigate the health impacts of crystalline silica mixed dust and other potential occupational hazards on workers in ceramic factories, a cohort study of 4851 workers registered in the employment records in 3 ceramic factories in Jingdezhen city of China between 1972 and 1974 was identified2 The cohort mortality was traced throughout 2003 with an accumulation of 128970.2 person-years, revealed 1542 deaths. Standardized mortality ratios (SMRs) were calculated for the main causes of death by using Chinese national mortality rates as reference. The mortality from all causesin three ceramic factories was 12.0‰ and the cumulative mortality was 31.8%. Malignant neoplasm, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, infectious diseases were the first four illnesses that threaten workers' life, and they accounted for 73.2% of all deaths. The resultsof this study showed that the standardized mortality ratio for all subjects was 1.02, which is very close to that expected on the basis of the China national mortality rates. Statistically significant mortality excesses for respiratory disease (SMR=1.36), pneumoconiosis (SMR=37.34), infectious disease (SMR=5.70) and pulmonary tuberculosis (SMR=3.88) were observed. The mortality of 2938 dust-exposed workers was higher than that of 1913 non dust-exposed workers. Except for pneumoconiosis, the mortality from lung cancer, non-malignant respiratory diseases and pulmonary tuberculosis in dust-exposed workerswere significantly increased as compared with that in non-exposed workers, and the relative risks(RRs) were 1.86 (1.16-2.99), 2.50 (1.84-3.40), 1.81 (1.34-2.45). The exposure-response relationships between cumulative dust exposure level and mortality from all causes, colorectal cancer, lung cancer, respiratory diseases, and pulmonary tuberculosis were also identified. The findings indicatedthat silica mixed dust in ceramic factories has harmful impact on the workers' health and life span in ceramic factory.
